November - Be There for Each Other

November 1, 2016

Team,

Over the years, I have heard team members describe our culture in many ways—a winning, caring and family culture. These are all wonderful descriptions of the environment we have worked hard to build and maintain over the years. Recently, we have provided a more descriptive and expansive view of our culture to the market with the repositioning of our brand and the values that describe "who we are." We are fresh thinkers, strategic, relentless, invested and personal, to name a few. These help to describe the fabric of our culture and how our people "show up" to represent OneDigital.

I love how we are evolving this conversation to help the market understand what makes us special. But, I also don't mind the simple references "caring, fun, family atmosphere" that tend to come up when we describe our company to our friends and family. In fact, I often like to think about one of the oldest and most basic principles that captures our culture in the simplest of ways: The Golden Rule. It's not complicated— “treat others as you would want to be treated.” Just think what a great organization we would be (and already are) if our main focus was always treating others with respect, providing support in times of need, and understanding how important it is to give to others.

I think about this concept often this time of year, not just because I am so thankful for those around me, but also because it is the time that our team members need us the most. It’s our busiest time of year, and we are all in this together. Being there for your co- worker isn’t just about being nice or being their friend; it’s about doing what you can to support their success. And, it doesn’t just affect the individual; it can affect the whole team. Think of “being there for each other” as the glue that holds your team together and makes it successful. It’s not possible for a team to be highly functioning without teammates who enthusiastically support each other.

I see examples of this every day and in particular with new acquisitions. We’ve been talking a lot lately about onboarding and how to create the ultimate experience for a team or an individual joining OneDigital. For those of you who may not be directly involved, you should know that there is an incredible amount of work and coordination that occurs when a new agency joins our family. As I’ve learned more about all of the steps behind the scenes, the one thing I’m most impressed by is the implementation team’s approach to “being there for our new associates.” It’s confusing for someone new to understand who to go to for what when they first join. This team always steps up and connects the right people when a question is directed to them. It’s never a case of “that’s not my job.” There’s a solution around the corner, and they do what they need to do in order to provide solutions for someone in need.

During this busy season, I know it’s easy to get wrapped up in our own crazy schedule and not think about others, but that is not OneDigital. We’re in this together, and together we are accomplishing so many great things. So, during this special and important time of year, remember to BE THERE FOR EACH OTHER and help the team close out this year on a successful note.

I'm thankful for this "Golden Rule" that I see so prominently displayed at OneDigital, and I'm thankful for all of you—Happy November!
