February - Be Optimistic

February 1, 2019

Good morning Team,

What a start to 2019! As I shared in my Town Hall comments, I entered January with such great optimism and pride in our past growth and accomplishments. I’m equally eager to tackle the opportunities ahead of us as we look to truly embrace our customers. And now, just a few weeks into the year, my optimistic outlook has reached new heights thanks to my interactions with so many of you and the important work we have begun to roll out as we kickoff 2019.

Our Growth Summit left me fired up about the amazing team we’ve assembled as we head into this next chapter together. And, as we look to Defy Gravity, I’ve been reflecting on John O’Leary’s visit with us and the powerful words he shared. I find it so inspiring to think about how an OPTIMISTIC outlook can have such a powerful impact, not just in your life, but also for the important people around you.

John’s words struck in many ways, but most impactful for me, were the three questions that he asked us to consider and reframe in a positive manner:

  • Why me?
  • Who cares?
  • What more can I do?

The first two questions have become clear to me since I first met John O’Leary a few years ago and began to reflect on these powerful questions that he posed. Now, I often say to myself “Why me?” in the most optimistic of ways. I feel blessed to be at the helm of this amazing organization. I have so many friends and talented team members that I get to spend time with every day as we experience this exciting journey together. I know how much we all care about each other and about building something that will make us all proud. We have 1500 (and growing) OneDigital family members “Who Care” and that’s what pushes me to do all that I can to become a better leader, teammate and friend to all of you.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve spent a significant amount of time reflecting on the last question. I’ve found that when you keep “What more can I do?” at the forefront of your thoughts, your paradigm really begins to shift in powerful ways. Being intentional about my actions and behaviors while having this question on my mind has already made a difference in my day-to-day interactions. Instead of seeing a challenge as a potentially losing proposition, I now find myself thinking in new and creative ways to overcome and solve for it. I’ve become even MORE hopeful, confident and optimistic about the future because I know that there is indeed more that I can do!

Last month at the Town Hall, I spoke to you about being obsessed with our customers and using this frame of mind to impact our business in positive ways. I love this quote from Churchill, “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”  It’s thinking like this and asking every day “What more can I do?” that will truly influence a positive change in each of us. This will also impact our relationships with our customers as we strive to improve our client retention and overall growth goals. My wish for all of you is that you find the optimism in this question and that it makes a positive impression in your life and in those with whom you come into contact.

I’d love to hear more from you about how these questions are impacting your life in positive ways. If you’re comfortable, please send me a message and share your experiences.

Have a great weekend and Be Optimistic!

Adam
