Happy New Year! I love this time of year for so many reasons. It’s a special time that we get to spend with our families enjoying the holidays and focusing on the people who are most important in our lives. For me, and I’m sure many of you, it’s also a time to clear our heads as we recharge from a long year and begin to focus on the opportunity and excitement of the year ahead. Our thoughts often wander to the highs and lows over the past year and how we plan to do more and be better in the coming year. This annual goal setting and self-improvement ritual is one that I find energizing and motivating, but if we are not careful, it can also become overwhelming and sometimes demoralizing. The danger can come when we measure our lives in numbers and specific goals but the goal line always seems to be moving - our weight, our income, our awards and accomplishments. When is it good enough, when have we reached our goal and when do we stop setting the bar higher? 2017 was an amazing year for OneDigital; perhaps our “Best” year on many fronts - financial, cultural and strategic. Can we finally rest on our laurels and all the success of 2017?
For me, the answer is what makes OneDigital so special and why we continue to grow and attract such wonderful talent and like-minded people to our family. From our inception, now nearly 18 years ago, our leadership team has always aspired to be the “Best.” Not just the fastest growing or the largest but truly the best. Being the “Best” is a tough aspiration. You can’t define it just by numbers or any specific goals. This can be overwhelming at times, but as I found myself lost in my thoughts and reflections these past few weeks, I realized why I find this so exhilarating, why I am so energized at the start of each year and what this quest to “Be the Best” really means. For me, and hopefully for all of you; It’s not about the destination; It’s really about the journey!
My passion for OneDigital to “Be the Best” is about being part of a team and a group of people who continue to strive to do more, who want to bring out the best in each other and who want to be part of something special. It’s about winning in the marketplace and leading our industry by bringing fresh thinking and innovation to our clients. And, it’s about having each other’s back and being part of something that is bigger than ourselves. That’s why every year we push to do more, to be better and to figure out what’s next for this great company. It’s not the destination but rather the journey we are on together that is so gratifying and gets me out of bed each January so fired up about our future.
At the Town Hall in a few weeks, I’m excited for you all to meet Jim Abbott, our keynote speaker. As a major league pitcher and Olympian, Jim knows what it means to be part of a team and has an inspiring story about adapting to obstacles as part of his amazing journey to fulfill his dream. I know you’ll enjoy Jim’s inspiring story as we kick off another year full of potential and hopefully personal and professional Bests.
