Our Top Candidates Have These Two Qualities

August 26, 2019

OneDigital has an amazing culture and it is derived from the awesome people who work here. Our Talent Acquisition Team has the great responsibility and privilege to maintain and enhance that culture by way of the people we add to our community. As we search for that next great team member, we conduct countless interviews for a variety of positions across the nation. Aside from the specificity of the individual questions, there are always two vital things we are looking for in each candidate we speak wit—analytical skills and emotional intelligence.

Being Analytical

Having a solid set of analytical skills shows us that you can research and evaluate information then utilize that information to problem solve and ultimately provide actionable solutions. It’s important for us to identify trends and solutions through our research. This skillset is applied by all of our talented team members to deliver on our promises to clients. So, when our recruiters ask about a time that you had a disagreement with a co-worker and how you resolved it, yes, they are looking at how you deal with conflict but we are also looking for the methodology and the skills that you used to do so.  At OneDigital one of our value drivers is to “practice fresh thinking and explore new possibilities”, in order to do this, we need to add people with strong analytical skills.

Emotional Intelligence

Your EQ, or Emotional Intelligence IQ, is the ability to recognize and understand emotions in oneself and others. This ability also involves utilizing this emotional understanding to make decisions, solve problems and communicate with others. There are five major components that makeup emotional intelligence:

  1. Self-awareness – being able to understand one’s strengths and weaknesses.
  2. Self-regulation – being able to think before you speak/act and to express yourself tactfully.
  3. Self-motivation – being motivated because of one’s own enthusiasm or interest.
  4. Empathy – the ability to understand other people’s emotions and reactions.
  5. Social Skills – the ability to build trust and rapport with others

When our recruiters ask about disagreements with a co-worker and how you resolved it – they are assessing you on things like self-awareness, self-regulation, self-motivation, empathy and social skills. People with high emotional intelligence are better able to work in teams, adjust to change and be flexible. These qualities aren’t only prized at OneDigital, they are necessary as we continue to expand as one of the country’s fastest-growing companies. Another one of our value drivers at OneDigital is to “invest time, respect and care for your co-workers, customers, and community”, strong emotional intelligence is not a “nice-to-have” for us, it’s a must!

Our organization wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t filled with people with strong analytical skills and high emotional intelligence, and there’s no way we will continue to grow and thrive if we don’t continue to search, find and add people with those qualities. Whenever we get to transition an individual from potential candidate to employee it’s a great feeling for both the individual and our organization. We’re always excited to find that next great hire – and we’re hopeful that it might be you!
