Stay Safe and Have Fun!

As the new year approaches, there are plenty of ways to celebrate. But whether your plans are to party with friends, shoot off some fireworks or watch the ball drop with your family, safety should always be a top priority. Here are a few tips to help you welcome the new year responsibly, no matter how you plan to celebrate.

Transportation

Especially if you are drinking, do not get behind the wheel. I would highly recommend utilizing transportation services such as Uber, Lyft, or a Taxi. If you do choose to drive to the party, be sure to plan on using one of these ride-sharing services if you are drinking. If you have a friend who is not drinking, hand over your keys.

Alcohol

As always, enjoy yourself but do not lose control of how many drinks you have. Make sure you eat before you go out to celebrate NYE and stay hydrated through the night. Make sure to always watch your drink for unwanted substances especially at bars. Count your drinks using pennies, or mark your hand with a pen each time you have a drink to make sure you don’t go overboard.

Fireworks

While fireworks are okay, do not be in charge of setting them off if you’re under the influence. You do not want to risk causing damage to yourself, others, or the surrounding area. Be sure to keep a good distance away from fireworks just to be safe. Pets also need to be considered when enjoying fireworks. Keep your pets inside and away from the direct loudness of the explosions. If outside, be sure they have tags with your information in case they are startled and run away.

Social Media

Be careful of what you post on social awareness when you are drinking. You certainly don’t want to embarrass yourself or portray yourself in an unflattering light. Choose to wait until the next day to look back at pictures and post what you want in the morning. Plus, you’ll be able to navigate those filters to create the perfect post!
