Mental Health Awareness Month

May 6, 2019 Paul Jackson

During the month of May, advocates across the country raise awareness about mental health. It is a time where we can all provide support, educate ourselves, and provide advocacy for people with a mental health condition and their families.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, about 1 in 5 adults live with a mental health condition. That is more than 40 million adults in the United States alone, which means mental health is likely to affect someone you know.

Here at OneDigital, we care about your mental health and overall total wellbeing. We understand the seriousness of mental health and how it can impact not only your life but the lives of those around you. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to stand with those living with a mental health condition to make you aware of some solutions that can help you or a loved one.

WorkLifeMatters Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Through our WorkLifeMatters EAP, you and your family members can receive confidential, professional assistance to help with issues such as stress, depression, substance abuse, financial concerns, and family issues—all at no charge. And although the EAP offers a wide variety of services, they can address mental health concerns and schedule three free appointments with a professional counselor and specialist in your area. You can find out more about how to use this complimentary benefit by searching WorkLifeMatters EAP under Your Benefits on DISH

OneDigital’s Medical Plans with Aetna

Receiving the proper care for a mental health condition is crucial to the recovery process. It is best to seek treatment from a doctor or mental health professional, which could vary, including counseling, medication, support, or alternative therapy. If you are enrolled in one of our four Aetna Medical Plans, you can receive help paying for your visits to a mental health provider. If you are not enrolled in our plan, most standard insurance plans cover mental health services, but you will want to reach out directly to clarify.

Total Brain App

If you have not heard yet, OneDigital recently partnered with Total Brain. This new resource is free to all employees and their families. After completing the initial assessment, you will be provided with a variety of short exercises to address your unique results. This free tool leverages neuroscience to help improve your brain performance, tapping into four main areas:

Emotion:  Awareness, Non-Conscious Bias, Default Mode

Feeling:  Anxiety, Stress, Depressive Mood Controls

Cognition:  Memory, Focus, Planning

Self-Control: Social Connectivity, Resilience, Conscious Bias

For years, the stigmas surrounding mental health have deterred many from seeking the proper treatment or pursuing preventative measures. We know that this can make the journey to recovery all the more challenging.

It is important to remember that mental health conditions are treatable, and it is okay to seek help. You work hard, day in and day out, and it is important that you take care of your whole self beyond the four walls of an office.
