I’m always amazed how time flies in our business and more importantly, in life. It’s hard to believe that I’m already writing my 6th “BE” note of the year. It feels like yesterday we kicked off 2016 with an energizing Town Hall and collaborative sales conference. And, even more astonishing, it doesn’t seem that long ago that Mike, Chuck and I were talking about how to get this company off the ground. Other than the evidence of my grey hair and maybe a few extra pounds, it’s hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that we are in our 16th year and now over 700 team members strong. On a more personal and emotional level, I’m also struggling with the reality that my oldest is now just a short year away from college and my youngest, born after Digital, is now sitting in the driver’s seat of my car (God help us all).
So, why do I mention these nostalgic feelings as we approach the midpoint of another great year? It’s not to depress myself, admit we are getting old or to try to stop time (although that is very tempting). It is to remind us all of the road we have traveled, all we have accomplished and all that we have to be proud of. Mike Sullivan, my long time business partner, has an expression that has helped me “slow down” and reflect on our progress over the years. “It’s important to take a step back from time to time and take a peak in the rear view mirror in order to truly appreciate the ground we have covered and to gain perspective on the road ahead.”
Last week was wonderful and productive as we brought together 20+ senior leaders in the company to talk about our business, our strategic direction and the opportunity to address challenges and continue our momentum as an organization. For me, it was another opportunity to “look in the rear view mirror” and reflect on all we have accomplished, the wonderful team we have assembled and the friendships and blessings that this journey has afforded me. More than just “enjoying the ride”, I am truly proud of the business we have built and the work we are doing together.
Whether it’s business, family milestones, improving your health or a step forward on a personal journey, please take the time to pause, celebrate and most importantly “Be Proud”. As a company we have much to be proud of. We are enjoying a successful year and have tremendous momentum in many areas of our business. I am energized about our continued success, and I look forward to sharing my thoughts and perspective when we get together for our Town Hall later this month. In addition to our “proud” past, we have so much to look forward to and an exciting road ahead.
So please join me this month in sharing your pride with family, friends and loved ones. Happy June and see you soon!
