Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your family and friends. This is such a special time of year, and I was fortunate to spend the holidays with my extended family enjoying a relaxing vacation, with lots of laughs and food:-)
For me, this is also a very reflective time, as it affords me the opportunity to think about all we have accomplished together as well as the tremendous opportunity ahead for OneDigital. During this reflection, many emotions race through me: pride, gratitude, anxiousness and excitement. It's hard to boil all these feelings into a single emotion or expression, but if I had to pick one, it would be "Fired up!”
I'm fired up about our growth as a company, our recent rebranding and coming together as OneDigital. I'm fired up about our position in the market and the fluid nature of our industry that provides us the opportunity to lead in so many ways. I'm also fired up about my family; my son preparing for college, my lacrosse team preparing for another season and the opportunity to make a small difference in these young men’s lives. Don't misunderstand me, I have problems and frustrations just like everyone else. I need to eat better, exercise more, listen more intently and continually remind myself to focus on the positive. I also need to find more time for myself and for those who are closest to me. So life's not perfect, but I’m working on it and I am certainty "fired up!” Most importantly, I'm fired up because I found my "spark.” I know what drives me and provides my inspiration. I love OneDigital and the great work we are doing together. I love building, mentoring and coaching. And, I love being part of a team, knowing that I can rely on my teammates and they can rely on me, through good times and tough ones.
So, as we head into a new year, with new beginnings and opportunities I have something to ask of each of you… "BE the SPARK." I want you to be as fired up about your work and your goals as I am. Find what drives and inspires you and "Be" that spark. We spend so much time working together and for our customers that if you don’t have an inner spark, it's easy to burn out quickly. Finding that excitement and pride in your work is what takes a good company into greatness. It can create a momentum within OneDigital that is unstoppable.
This month at our Town Hall, I’m pleased to welcome a dynamic speaker, John O’Leary, to share his inspirational story. I have met John several times and while reflecting over the holidays, I reread his book titled, "On Fire," which so appropriately sums up my emotion. I'm excited to have John share some thoughts with our team in a few weeks, and I hope his words are as meaningful to you as they have been for me.
In John’s book, he shares many inspirational thoughts. One of my favorites is: “You can’t always choose the path you walk in life, but you can always choose the manner in which you walk it. If you are ready to overcome your challenges and celebrate the joy of today and the possibility of tomorrow, you have found the right place.” I feel that way about coming to work each day and I hope you do too.
I’m “fired up” about 2017, and I can’t wait to see what it has in store for us collectively and individually. “Be the Spark” and please join me by setting your life on fire!
